Oktoberfest 10-7-2012

Oktoberfest:
We took the Army MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) trip to Munich for the world famous Oktoberfest.  The trip was really nice because we had transportation to and from, so we didn't have to worry about getting lost, or traffic, etc.  We arrived at the fairgrounds around noon and immediately made our way to the sausage stand!  The area was large, about four city blocks filled with biergartens, rides, and fair-like stands with ice cream and other treats.  We spent the afternoon walking around the city, and people watching.  Most of the locals dress in traditional Lederhosen (men's outfits) and Dirndl (women's outfits).  After a while we stumbled upon a restaurant biergarten that was off the beaten path.  It was much more low key than the fair grounds, and the food was really great.  We split a plate that had half a chicken, knudel, fries, and a large pretzel.  We met a family from Ramstein, Germany, a couple from Switzerland and a woman from Austria.  Everyone was really nice to us and we enjoyed quite a few laughs throughout the afternoon.
